Less is more, keep this in mind when making your clothing selections. There's no need to run out and buy new outfits. Some of the most classic looks, are jeans a solid colored nice top, and bare feet! Here are some of the dos and don’ts in regards to clothing.

Children are happier and more contented when they are well fed. Avoid grumpiness and distraction by giving your child a snack or meal before their session. Most of the time we would like to schedule your children(s) session in the morning.

Be careful not to feed your child any foods that may stain their skin. You may not always notice it but the camera will pick it up.

We suggest keeping your child away from markers, pens, paints, or other messy toys before your session.

Please do not ask your child to say "cheese" or demand that they smile for the camera. Doing so can create fake smiles and poses while causing your child to feel the pressure of performing for the camera.

Playing with our equipment is NOT permitted due to cost and safety reasons. Safety is important to us. We ask that you watch your children around our equipment.

Feel free to bring along items you would like to incorporate. Does your child have a favourite book, toy or activity?

We suggest bringing a brush or comb to your session. Spare hair accessories can be helpful too.

Bring several changes of clothes for a greater variety in your final images.

Don’t forget those accessories! Hats, scarves, fun socks, umbrellas, etc are all fun.

Not feeling well? We understand that children get sick. We want to create beautiful portraits for you to cherish for years to come. If your child isn’t feeling well we suggest rescheduling.

Newborn Tips

Congratulations on your new little bundle! This will be, by far, the most excited and the most exhausting days you will face. There is just something magical about a new baby that brings a smile to a face, and makes your heart skip a beat. They are perfect in every way, from perfect little noses, to sweet little feet. There is nothing like a new baby, and it never stops amazing me how quickly they change. Taking the time to plan for your baby’s photo session will make all the difference in the final images. A little preparation will make for a happier baby (and mom) during the photo shoot and you will increase the chances of getting the photographs you are envisioning. Here are a few tips that will help aid you in your newborn session:

1. Babies can loose the ” newborn baby curl” within about 10 days of birth. If you’re looking for that little rump to be up and the baby to be moldable, schedule your session within the first 10 days after birth.

2. Plan the sleepiest time for the shoot. The sleepier the better, and no one would have a better idea of when that is than mom. Generally right after feeding, the baby will be more content and sleepy. The mornings usually work best.

3. Bare skin is my favorite for newborns and babies (that way we can see their soft newborn skin). Keep in mind, baby may get grouchy when there are too many clothing changes. Diaper covers are a great idea, if you would rather they be clothed. Dress your baby in something easy to take off without disturbing him prior to my arrival. Have whatever the baby is wearing beforehand on loosely, to avoid unsightly red marks. Clothing that doesn’t have to go over the head is good or even just have the baby wrapped in a blanket with diaper on.. You need to be able to undress the baby without losing the deep slumber. Newborns are perfect candidates for naked photos! Not only does nakedness highlight their innocence and newness, but also clothing is often ill fitting and tends to overpower the baby and dominate the image. A neutral colored onesy makes for a very simple and clean photo.

4. I always have on hand props, like beautiful textured throws and blankets, different types of containers to place the baby in, and various hats. If you have something special you want photographed with the baby, like a stuffed animal or special blanket, have it ready.

5. Mom and or Dad should be wearing neutral , plain colored clothes. That way you won’t clash with baby in the photos. I’m bound to want to include you in a few!

6. Let me do the work in positioning the baby unless I ask you for help. Only a couple of poses may call for extra hands. Above all….relax and have fun!!

Testimonials

I want to take a moment to thank each and everyone of my clients for allowing me the opportunity to create your portraits. I will use images taken during photo sessions to show future clients the quality of work that they may expect with their images. Without the ability to do so, clients would not be able to judge whether my style is compatible with their needs. Most typically, images are used here on the blog for 'sneak peeks', in an online gallery and sometimes in printed promotional materials. Identities of the children are always kept confidential. Only first names will be used.

FAQ #1: So how does this work?

Part of my job as your portrait photographer is to accommodate your vision of what you want out of your time and your session. Although I do have a portrait studio, I also encourage you to come up with an outdoor location that is special to you and your family and a setting that you feel comfortable in.

FAQ #2: How long do sessions take?

A typical session can take up to an hour. Newborn sessions often can take up to 3 hours, due to their ever-demanding needs. Don't worry if you find that your baby needs to sleep. We'll listen to your baby's cues and I'll have you respond in any way to make them contempt and happy. A photo session can be exhausting and stressful to them, so don't be surprised if they are not acting like their 'usual' selves.

FAQ #3: What should I wear?

Dressing for a photo session means looking the best you can be, but in a casual, relaxed way. For families, pay attention to how your clothes coordinate rather than “match” and avoid loud patterns and colors that will draw attention away from YOU. Jeans and a plain long-sleeved t-shirt in black or a neutral color always look great. Bright colors are more appropriate for children than adults and always stick to styles that are more classic and timeless rather than trendy. As for babies and newborns, sometimes a simple diaper cover or no clothes at all work the best!
